My Experiments with Blogging

Well, i've had this blog for almost 3 years now. I created this blog in my first year just for the fun of it, then created a wordpress blog (tumblr hadn't come out yet). And i just let them be, not having the time to write or rather not knowing what to write. So, finally in my 3rd year i.e last feb, i wrote a couple of blog posts and starting this summer, i've resolved to write atleast 2 blog posts a week (though i haven't these last 2 weeks). And since i started blogging regularly, i've come across quite a few things which would motivate you towards blogging further.

One of the things is Scheduling your blogpost to auto publish on the net at a certain period of time. I've realised that it will be hard to write 2 blog posts every week, or atleast till i get used to managing hte time. So, i now write as many posts as i can, save and schedule them to be auto-published at regular intervals. This way, even if im busy during a week and i couldnt write a blog post, i still have something to publish and stay true to my resolution of 2 posts a week.

Then come the more interesting things.
I've always wanted to share my bookmarks with the world, as i once saw a professor's website mentioning his blog posts and i thought that this would be a cool way to share websites that you frequent. I made a new page on my wall, edited the page in HTML adding the html code from my saved bookmarks page. I've written a blog post on this topic and also here's the link to the bookmarks page on my blogpost.

Then comes automatic posting. This is not similar to the scheduled publishing i mentioned before. You see, i have quite a few friends who share similar music interests with me and we keep sharing music between us every once in a while. they're basically youtube links to the respective videos, and we have to keep tabs of them regularly so as to update the others of the new ones and not remind them of the old ones again. Also, i keep watching a million youtube videos every month, some of which are quite interesting and i wanted to share these with others. So, i was looking for a way to put together all of these videos onto a single page  or a blog. And this is when i found IFTTT (If this then that), basically an automating service for people who use the internet regularly. and as their motto reads,
"make the internet work for you, not the other way around". And they have a way by which i can automatically post videos which i added onto my "favorites" playlist onto my blog or the videos which i liked through Vimeo. And since i didnt want my blog to be flooded by these things, i created a different blog just for these things. here's the blog and you can clearly see that the videos have been automatically posted through IFTTT.com. and i've recently started using this service to automatically blog about some interesting things i read online as well.

The next time, i'll talk to you about Google Adsense and Google Analytics - a couple of the best things a geek would want to know about.

Adios.
